What is Wrong with the Washington Square Park Fountain?

Washington Square Park’s famous fountain has been off for over two weeks and prior to that the plumes looked super low. It’s the height of summer. What is going on?

The NYC Parks Department Press office has not responded to Washington Square Park Blog’s query as to what is wrong with the park’s fountain. Prime time summer and no fountain. I can’t recall anything like this happening in the last 17 years.
