Community Board 2’s Parks Committee will meet to discuss “management” of Washington Square Park on Wednesday, June 4th at 6:30 p.m. Washington Square Park Administrator Will Morrison, who works for the NYC Parks Department in that capacity, will speak. While a clear conflict of interest, Morrison is now also Executive Director of Washington Square Park Conservancy.

What Does This Mean?
The Community Board sometimes uses unclear words when they don’t want to disclose to the public exactly what will be discussed.
“Management” of the park could mean anything. I initially took it for another power grab by Washington Square Park private Conservancy, an entity run by four Fifth Avenue socialites which already has way too much power. It could mean management of the artists, people who are homeless, maintenance of the park, etc.
A lot more transpires at this meetings than you might think and it is a good idea to attend.
The Wednesday, June 4th meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. in person and also via Zoom online. Please attend!
In person location is 3 Washington Square Village south of the park (near corner of Bleecker and LaGuardia) in the conference room.
