A snapshot of scenes at the park during Gay Pride Parade 2018, Sunday, June 24, NYC:
This was the 49th year of the Pride Parade which began “to commemorate the Stonewall Riots of 1969” considered “the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement.” The Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village is located not far from the park.
There were a lot of corporate and government sponsors in the parade, it changes the dynamic. Perhaps that has happened increasingly over time. Thankfully, that dynamic did not enter Washington Square Park.
