“It’s the best park in the world” says Paul Jerreat of Washington Square Park. Jerreat created this video of footage taken over two years walking through the park. A cameraman and video editor, Jerreat lived in New York City for four years until last fall. He captures what you might see in this one minute, 15 seconds on a day at this public space pretty close to perfectly.
There are a lot of reasons Washington Square Park is so unique, and differs from other NYC parks, other parks in the world, for that matter – let’s keep it that way.

This year the park seems flooded with vendors – what is up with that? Not all of us are in the park trying to earn a living – we paid our taxes and we should be able to enjoy our park, not a concrete slab crammed with performers and table vendors.
Hi nygrump, apologies for the delay. It seems to have been an unintended consequence of regulating the musicians and artists with the need for tables. Go figure!

How about the drug dealers and users in the NW and SW corners of the park, how will they survive?
Lovely video. Thanks
Thanks, Michelle. I thought so too!
