Join Dances For A Variable Population today, Saturday, September 19 at 6 p.m. at Washington Square Park on the Garibaldi Plaza stage for their 5th annual dance event, Washington Square Dances, highlighting performances by dancers of all ages from the group’s “multi-generational company,” as well as the Red Silk Dancers and seniors who trained during the free dance lessons in the park this summer.

A bit more about the program from last year via Dances for a Variable Population (DVP) Artistic Director Naomi Goldberg Haas:

“Since our founding in 2005, DVP has lovingly held classes and events in the Washington Square Park community. With the initial phase of the renovation of Washington Square Park in 2011, we initiated Washington Square Dances performances. This year, we held weekly summer movement classes and are excited to celebrate the completion of the project and herald forth more dancing in the park!”

These classes continued mornings in the park this summer as well. Today’s early evening event is free and features choreography by Artistic Director Naomi Goldberg Haas, Sandra Genter, Bruce Heath, Alice Teirstein and Margaret Yuen.

(You can still practice Tai Chi with an instructor Tuesday mornings at the park until October 13th!)
