New York University’s latest Alumni magazine features A Map of the Natural Inhabitants & Visitors of Washington Square Park. The map is featured above and the magazine also contains a key explaining those inhabitants and visitors, which includes the American Tree Sparrow, Eastern Gray Squirrel, Human, Little Brown Bat, Rock Dove (the pigeon!), Red-tailed Hawk, Norway Rat, and more. The front cover features Bobby the red-tailed hawk; the back cover features a “mischief” (or group – who knew?) of the Norway rats. The magazine refers to them as “two of Washington Square Park’s most iconic creatures.” At the link, you can see the key to the map (page 68-69, pages right at the end before the back cover). The artist is Eric Chase Anderson and you can view more of his work here.
This is different from the WSP Eco Map referenced here over the last few months which is coming later this year. (Yes, there was a winner! for the contest to name the mobile map of the park’s trees and wild things.)
