The Washington Square Park Dog Run is putting together their calendar for 2015 and they are looking for submissions of “paintings, illustrations, scribbles, sculptures and collages of real or conceptual dogs (it does not have to be your dog and it does not have to be literal).” Please submit in jpg form. Artwork is due tomorrow, Friday, August 15th! You can learn more about it here.
I’m sure everyone has a picture of their dog they’d love to submit – those cost money to be included in the calendar but it goes to a worthwhile cause, of course. To buy other space in the calendar for your business or to feature your dog, and to learn more about the dog run association, visit this page.
Send your submissions to Eileen here.
More info about where the money goes:
It costs approximately $20,000 to maintain the small and large dog runs each year. The Washington Square Park Dog Run Association, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is responsible for the care of the runs. The Association is run by volunteers, and every penny of your tax-deductible donation goes directly to the runs. The Parks Department does not financially contribute to or maintain the runs, so it’s your donations that create the loving, safe, clean and fun place for our dogs to socialize, hang out and play.
Do I understand why the Parks Department doesn’t subsidize the Dog Run? No. Are newly set up Dog Runs in parks paid for and maintained by the city? It would be interesting to know.
Either way, send in your submissions!
