Washington Square’s 2012 Christmas Tree at the Arch (This is one Tall Tree!)

The undecorated tree almost reaches the top of the Arch!
Shadows…
View from Thompson Street

The tree arrived Monday from Vermont. This is a super tall tree that touches the underpinnings (?) of the framework of the Arch. It is not yet decorated. The tree lighting ceremony takes place Wednesday, December 5th 6 p.m..

Oh and this last shot was a look back from Thompson Street and, although the lighting is dim, I like how you can see the lit windows in the apartment buildings beyond Fifth Avenue which show up as little squares.

One more note: In 1924, the tree was planted IN the park in the spirit of “wise use.” (How come this concept is not currently in favor I wonder?)
