Updated 10/8, 7:35 a.m. — Occupy Wall Street moves slightly uptown to Washington Square Park Saturday, October 8th 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Billed as “Democracy in the Park” and “We take back Washington Square Park.”
Here’s Gather.com initial story (tho’ apparently since this was published, OWS now has permit from city’s Parks Department).
Info now on the Occupy Wall Street web site.

So there is a march from Wall St to Wash Sq? What time does it leave Wall St or is everyone meeting at Wash Sq at 3 pm? Rock on!
Hi Ed,
Your comment may be my all time favorite. The “Rock on!” made me smile. It’s a good question! I’m sure there are people on site who will ‘march’ (or walk exuberantly) together but otherwise I believe people are meeting *at* the park. (Probably near Fountain.)
If I hear otherwise, I will update you!
Rock on, indeed!

Thanks Cathryn, appreciate it!

Cathryn,
You do realize that their intent is to relocate their protest to WSP because Zucotti park is too small according to protesters interviewed on the news this morning. We just got (most of) the park back after the construction, and now we have to put up with this? You know the cops are going to enforce the park hours. Where are all those people going to when he park closes? The Village has been struggling with a bit of a crime issue this year, and now the local precincts have to be taken off the street to babysit the protesters. I know my opinion I going to be unpopular, but I don’t care, much like the protesters who don’t give a crap about the residents and businesses they’re affecting downtown.
Ed, You are welcome!!
Hi Angela! Hope you are well. You know the problem is the larger system that we are especially subject to under Mayor Bloomberg so if anyone is inconvenienced temporarily in a neighborhood I suppose they should be happy they have a home — and have been allowed to remain there unlike so many others who, with the rezonings and favors to developers, have not been able to and have been booted out.
If we had a different government structure, Mayor Bloomberg would not have gotten away with what he did at Washington Square and the construction would have ended much sooner. I say more power to the occupiers — people in the Village will survive and could do with a bit more of this spirit which used to be the norm. That being said, I really don’t think they are going to stay at Washington Square but we’ll see.
best,
Cathryn.
Fair enough Cathryn. Yep, you know I’ve disgusted by the subterfuge and general bs that went on, and continues to go on, regarding the entire WSP project. Time will tell what happens with OWS. I only hope it ends peacefully.
Btw there were official looking guys with hardhats and iPads staring at the empty tree pit and the other dead tree around the fountain earlier this week @ 630am. Wonder what the plan is now.
This is a very exciting time! I happen to be working very close to Zuccatti Park and so am able to stop in a few times a day to witness history in the making. I look forward to following this blog for Washington Square updates.
Hi Angela, thanks for your note. Interesting re: “official looking guys with hardhats and iPads” “staring at empty tree pit” etc. I wonder what the plan is now too!! We’ll see…
Monica, Thanks for writing. Cool that you can get day to day (or minute to minute) updates on “history in the making.” Love that. Thanks for checking out the blog as always. “Student assembly” going on today at Wash Square – not certain of the time – and then heading to Time Square.
More to come, right?!
Take care –
best,
Cathryn.
