I have been sick and not able to get around as much. I am sad that the park is changing. I remember hanging out as a teenager and it was a safe haven and place to be yourself. I hope the powers that be will allow the public to be themselve in the new park. We need these icons that help create and define our connections with our New York. Thanks for the forum to express my sentiments.
I do not like the new plan of the park , but the old park was terrible . While I am not sure that the new plan will be an improvement , hopefully it won’t be any worse
The stately old trees that survived hard economic times and past wars were just forced out by high rents. Replaced by ATM grass and Duane Reade saplings;
surrounded by chain-store link fences. Pity, in these new hard times we could have used some things that have historically survived.
May I suggest you include in this photo section the photo of the 210-year-old gravestone that was discovered in Washington Square Park on October 23, 2009. It would seem appropriate since your blog broke the story one week before the New York Times. Thanks!
Looks great! I can’t wait until it is open again!
