Update: Rescheduled to Sunday, November 19th; 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Contest at Noon
Update 10/28 – postponed due to forecast of inclement weather. Event will be rescheduled. Will update with new date.
Dog Day Halloween, the annual Costume Party & Parade organized by the Washington Square Park Dog Run, will take place this Sunday, October 29th on the Fountain Plaza. Bring your dog or just join in the spectacle!
10:45 a.m. Registration begins to enter. 12 noon Parade and Costume Contest begins. (Suggested $10 Donation to enter contest). All the fun and pageantry ends at 2 p.m.
Eileen Schulock who runs, uh, the WSP dog runs (there are two – large and small) writes in:
“Seems like we could all use a little fun news these days so I thought I would reach out and see if it is of interest. We anticipate more than 100 dogs in costume, hundreds of spectators, we’ll have sketch artists and even a dog psychic on hand as well as adoptable pups from Animal Haven, treats, raffles and greet and treat with sponsors.”
The event used to take place in the Large Dog Run but they outgrew that – the turnout has gotten bigger and bigger – so it has been moved onto the Fountain Plaza.
If you don’t have a dog of your own, you can even adopt one at the event! A good way to get in the Halloween spirit before the big Greenwich Village Halloween Parade which occurs just two days later.
I just saw that this event has been CANCELED due to inclement weather. Everyone is super sad about this is. Is there any chance it’s being rescheduled for another date?
Hi Laura,
Thanks for writing in. It IS super sad. Got word from the WSP Dog Run people that it * will * be rescheduled. They will let us know about new date and we will update here.
Thanks for commenting!
