Is this tree by the playground? I couldn’t identify it from the photo but someone on Twitter (@tgaw) suggested a magnolia and I recall a magnolia in the lawn area west of the big playground.

Yes, by the playground. I thought it might be a magnolia as well but wanted to be sure. Poor tree.
