Washington Square Arch in PRIDE colors This Weekend Starting Tonight, June 28 & Saturday, June 29

Washington Square Arch in Pride Colors
The World Pride Parade 2019 will take place in Greenwich Village this Sunday, June 30th. It is the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Riots in Greenwich Village, not far from Washington Square Park. (See previous post for more information.) In honor of the event — the anniversary is attracting a lot of attention — the New York City Mayor’s Office has arranged for our beloved Washington Square Arch to be adorned in Pride colors beginning this evening Friday, June 28th and Saturday, June 29th.

The work was designed by Jason Sherwood Design, and specifically Brian Tovar, who wrote on Instagram: “Happy #pride! I’m so honored to have creative directed and designed this light installation in honor of #worldpride2019 in New York City this weekend …” The lighting goes up after 8:30 p.m.
