Madonna Performed Last Night IN the Washington Square Park Fountain for Pre-Election Surprise Show

A surprise, announced-at-the-last-minute, pre-election concert brought Madonna to Washington Square Park last night where she performed acoustically in the fountain amidst a super charged energy and ecstatic fans. The singer had teased on Instagram that she would do “a surprise intimate very small acoustic concert Monday night” in support of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton; the location was kept under wraps until the very last minute. It was estimated about 300 people attended. According to Billboard, the crowd was mostly NYU students (?).

Madonna performed “covers of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ and Peter, Paul and Mary’s ‘If I Had A Hammer,’ as well as her own songs ‘Rebel Heart’ and ‘Like A Prayer'” with her guitarist Monte Pittman and her son, also on guitar, David Banda. The acoustics from within the basin of the fountain were fantastic and she sounded great!

The superstar said during the short set: “This is a concert about peace.” I hope that if Hillary Clinton is elected U.S. President that this is the direction she will go in. Both major party candidates seem a bit shaky on the “peace” front.

Madonna performing “Imagine”:

It was seven months ago that Democratic contender (pre-primaries) Bernie Sanders energized thousands of people taking over all of Washington Square Park.

Of course, today is Election Day! Vote your conscience.

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace… You…
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
