Friday night, June 14th, 8:30 p.m. by the Arch, the New York premiere of French film L’Art d’aimer (The Art of Love). This will actually be the first film screened in the Films on the Green series — presented Friday nights throughout the summer by the Parks Department and the Cultural Services of French Embassy at rotating NYC parks — this season. Last Friday’s premiere at Central Park was rained out.
Last year, I went for the first time to one of the films at the Park and it really is a fantastic atmosphere to see a film. Worth checking out!

A series of vignettes about “the little music we hear when we fall in love” follows five Parisian couples as they deflect, complicate, and accept love, coming to terms with their feelings in humorous and inventive ways…
Reviews (via Wikipedia):
Foreign (U.S.) critiques: Neil Young of the Hollywood Reporter positively reviewed the film, comparing it to the works of Woody Allen, but adding that “some promising ideas in this high-toned romantic comedy get smothered by an over-complicated presentation”. Jey Weissberg of the Variety wrote “Mouret’s rep and stellar cast mean local biz should be strong […], but it will take more than art for ‘Love’ to transcend borders” and gave the film a mixed review. The Time Out gave it three out of five stars, naming it the “frothy fun”.
About “Films On the Green:”
is a free outdoor French film festival produced annually in New York City parks by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the City of New York Parks & Recreation. Since 2008, the festival has brought classic and contemporary French cinema to New Yorkers, each season’s films cover a different theme from environment to musicals and literary adaptations.
Next Friday, June 21st will be the second (and final) in the series at Washington Square and will screen the film, “French Cancan.”
